What we love about this space is the fusion of vintage inspired pieces mixed with current modern day elements. This is the current “IT” trend. We recently wrote about ways to incorporate Modern Retro design into your current space. Designer tips for Modern Retro Style

So many aspects of day to day life is focused around the kitchen. We admit it, we are total foodies and having a place for our family and friends to gather is so important. We love this oversized built in seating with farmhouse style table.

When designing your space, always always always take advantage of Windows and maximize opportunity for natural light. The dark frame Windows add extra drama and sets the tone for the space. In our Modern Retro blog we wrote about consistency and concentrated use of color. This space excels at this. The window treatments pair perfectly with the pillows and sets the historical context for the space.

The color choice for the kitchen is a departure from kitchens of decades past. The bold commitment to color sets the modern tone for the space, especially couples with the brass cabinet hardware which is having a major moment in the design world.

Remember those black and white checked floor from your favorite soda pop shop? They have been revamped and updated simply by changing the installation pattern. There’s a great tip to be learned here, a simple change to  how you lay your tile can give a whole new spin to the design asthetic.

Sometimes it’s the little choices that make a big impact. The running bond tile floor install makes a huge impact and the same pattern is replicated on a smaller scale to make the tile backsplash. Another subtle choice here, the white gray grout against the black tile. It’s a reference to the colors installed on the floor but here the contrast really makes the black tile pop without being overdone.

Rememeber great design comes down to simple choices. Color and consistency with a little bit of repetition will give you the professional style results every time. Until next time. -D
