2018 Color Trends Forecast
Color forecasting is one of my most looked forward things of year. Almost instantly next years forecasted trends are spotted on the runway, in magazines and on your favorite products. The much anticipated Pantone Color of the Year will be realized soon and I can’t wait for Twitter to go crazy the announcement.
I typically like to wait to get the color forecast presented live. The Surya showroom at the High Point Market presents the Sherwin Williams Color Mix forecast during fall market. I highly recommend it if you are planning on attending fall market this year. Also your local Sherwin Williams representative will likely present a presentation for the local design community. These are great networking and informational, not to be missed events!
Every major paint manufacturer releases their own forecasting presentation and color of the year, although the overarching theme and color story tend to be similar. This article will focus on the Sherwin Williams 2018 Color Forecast.
Sherwin Williams categorizes colors by three main drivers Sincerity, Unity and Connectivity. Informed by current trends and movements, these color groups will inform our color choices for the rest of the year.
Sincerity
These color are focused on stillness, quite and slowing down. It is influenced by our rushed lifestyle and the need to unwind. Think of subdued neutral hues that are easily blended and soothing.
Unity

These colors are bright and bold, reminding us that we are not alone in the world. Influenced by global cities, adventure, community and travel. Think of multiculturiusm, exotic, optimistic colors when working with this color palette.
Connectivity

These colors are influenced by our high tech lifestyle. They are thought generators and conversation starters. Think of free moving ideas, information sharing, pixelation and augmented reality when working with these colors.
