Shop The Look: Artful Scandinavian Interior

Scandinavian Design is known for white walls, simple, minimalist furniture, pops of color and lots of greenery. It is closely related to Mid Century Modern Design aesthetic and has been gaining momentum through the increased popularity of Hygge. Never heard of Hygge? See our previous post What the Heck is Hygge and Should You Try It, HERE.

In today’s Shop The Look feature we are putting together some of our favorite product finds to create this beautiful, artfully inspired room for our client.

It all starts with an inspirational image. When our clients provided us with their personal look book of their favorite designs, we instantly honed in on the unmistakable hallmarks of classic Scandinavian style, with a bit of a modern flair. We knew the key to giving our client the living room of their dreams was to capture the essence of their inspiration, but still make the space comfortable, inviting and a bit eclectic.

How we did it:

Focus on the key pieces

The crucial aspects of this living room design lies in the furniture selection. Scandinavian furniture is simple and practical with lots of exposed wood elements. We looked to Scandinavian furniture manufacturer Scandis to source a few staple pieces.

The Asunto Coffee Table from Scandis is a true embodiment of craftsmanship. We love the intricate detail of the table top. It is simple, yet refined. Sturdy and durable it is a great entertaining piece that will give your guests something to talk about. Find it HERE.

As designers we like to shop around at a myriad of stores to create a unique curated look for our clients. We don’t want our spaces to look like a manufacturer’s show room. When styling your personal space, shop around! Not only will it help you secure the best prices it will also help you define your personal, unique style.

For a Scandinavian Inspired Armchair we headed over to All Modern and found this stunning armchair. We love that it comes in different colors. This gives us an opportunity to give our client different options and source different solutions into our room renderings.

Add Accessories

We always like to start with a few stable accessories when enhancing a room. Pillows, area rugs, and lighting are among the first things we like to source. For this space we wanted to select a fixture that had an artisanal quality with ample light toned exposed wood to add the hand hewn Scandinavian quality. Next we sourced decorative pillows and and area rug to bring in the much needed pop of color. We love these knitted throw pillows from All Modern. It has a warm and cozy quality that is comfortable and inviting.

Go for the Green

The addition of greenery helps to make a space feel comfortable and inviting. If you do not have a green thumb, consider using succulents as they are easy to maintain. Also consider using artificial plants. This is especially helpful if your space does not have a lot of exposure to daylight or if you are considering exotic plants not native to your local climate zone.

We love this potted cactus plant from World Market. It is an ideal shade of green that blends nicely with light rustic wood tones. Cactus plants have been increasingly popular and are a must have design element for on trend spaces. Add a few potted succulents and a tall tree for last minute touches.
