In 2017 America saw the rise of Hygge as the latest lifestyle trend. Pronounced “hoo-gah”, hygge is a Danish word used to express a feelingĀ  of comfort, coziness, and happiness enjoying the simpler things. It involves a conscious state of slowing down and being in the present, whether alone or with friends. Although the term dates back to the 1800s, its now and integral part of Danish life. If you have ever enjoyed reading a book by the fire, the comfort of an oversized sweater or the calmness of a cup of tea then you have experienced hygge.

Hygge is about the moment. The feeling you get from an experience. Being Present. Being Content. By adding layers you have the opportunity to set the stage. Remember the rule of 3? Your decor is more powerful when grouped in threes. Make up your bed with layers and layers of warm linens in neutral, contrasting colors. This will be an enticing respite and could quite possibly create your best nights sleep ever. Look to the warm glow of the candlelight or fireplace to create a calm and soothing environment. This instantly brings us back to a simpler time, when there was no electricity, no hurried lifestyle. Just sitting together staying warm, connecting with our friends and family on a cold winter’s night.
