Trendwatch: Countdown to Highpoint Market

It’s one of our favorite times of the year – High Point Market. A time when designers and retailers from across the globe descend upon the furniture capital of the world to discover the latest products and trends. The usually quiet, southern town is completely transformed during 5 days of non stop action and industry buzz. In past markets we have shared transportation with buyers from Australia, to Ecuador to Japan. It’s truly a global experience where we all speak the same beautiful language of design.

To best navigate market, its best to have a plan, scheduled appointments, comfortable shoes and lots of coffee! Market can be exhausting, but it is certainly a lot of fun, an informative too. There are several can’t miss seminars covering topics ranging from Color Forecasting to Green Design to Client Marketing.

The keynote event from this year’s market will be presented by HGTV’s The Property Brothers, a definite must go! Book Signing to follow.

To help get inspired for this year’s market, we have compiled a list of recurring trends we expect to see.

Oceanside – SW Color of the year

Sherwin Williams recently announced their 2018 Color of the Year. We recently wrote about the inspiration behind this color story  2018 Sherwin Williams Color of the Year . We expect this color to pop up everywhere. We recently saw this Settee in an Oceanside Inspired Color Palette

Cultural Inspired Motifs

Design is global. The trends for 2018 are inspired by travel, folklore and a celebration of globalization. We want to feel connected and inspired by the world around us. We expect to see bold and unusual prints inspired by local customs from across the globe reminding us that we are all connected.

Brass Finishes

Brass is having its come back moment. Its flashy and polished and pairs nicely with Mid-Century Modern and Industrial décor, both of which being increasingly popular design styles. Brass may be used as accent hardware or an make up an entire piece but we expect it to be ever present at market. Brass has a sturdy, expensive look which is appealing to many home buyers looking for a durable, yet opulent look that is easy on the wallet.

Mid-Century Modern + Modern Farmhouse

Mid Century Modern and Modern Farmhouse are two of the hottest design styles of the moment. We expect to see numerous pieces that outfit and accessorize these spaces. There is a certain timelessness and ease with these design styles. Our day to day lives get are busy and hectic so we look for a respite to quiet us down. 2018 will see many of these calming, relaxing pieces to help outfit our oasis. Look for simple clean lines and minimal, purposeful detailing.
