Year End Review: Best of 2017

2017 was the year of Hygge, Tiny Houses, Farmhouse Style, Metallics and Millennial Pink. We’ve seen talented designers push the boundaries of every design trend and we have watched the spirit of the design community as they give back and enrich the lives of others through the power of design. In this post we look back at our most popular articles.

Cozy Contentment of Hygge

It is no doubt that Hygge dominated 2017. The power of of finding contentment, enjoyment in the present is a calming juxtaposition to our hectic lifestyles. Warm neutrals, knitted elements, rustic accoutrements and a cozy quiet corner are at the heart of hygge and shaped the home interiors and Instagram feeds everywhere. Missed out on the hygge movement? Modern Farmhouse Design Style

The popularity of HGTV’s Fixer Upper popularized the Modern Farmhouse movement in 2017. Galvanized Metal, Ship lap, weather wood and distressed  elements were popping up in home decor accessories. With a focus on family and gathering, modern farmhouse inspired decor features easy neutrals that are comfortable and inviting and practical decorative elements that are as useful as they are stylish.  We rounded up our favorite farmhouse decor packages in two of our popular Shop The Look Features this past year: Modern Farmhouse Entryway and Modern Farmhouse Living Room.

Tiny House Domination

2017 was certainly a sellers market and available homes for sell were short in supply. This may very well be at the heart of the Tiny House Craze of 2017. Tiny Houses pair big style in a tiny footprint. We love the creative storage solutions and the portability of a Tiny House. Because less material is utilized its possible to use higher end luxury pieces that typically aren’t affordable in traditional homes. This is a huge plus and one of the many reasons Why We Love Tiny Houses.

Design Gives Back

Threshold Urban Meadows, Designs for Dignity

It is easy to think of design as an elusive luxury only accessible to the rich and famous. That couldn’t be further from the truth! Design is about finding creative solutions and enhancing spaces to provide a sense of pride and connection to a space. We have seen this in action with non profit organizations such as Designs for Dignity. Designers are donating their time re-purposing donated materials to retrofit local non profits. The results uplifts a community, forges relationships and provides and everlasting sense of pride and integrity to those who need it most.
